South Fork American - 1/2 Day Trip - Gorge Run
South Fork American River Map

The South Fork of the American River is a great introduction to the sport of whitewater rafting. This river is ideal for first-timers and families.

The Lower Gorge section is a good solid Class 3 run with over 15 major rapids. Its course begins at the small mining town of Lotus. This calm class 2 section allows first timers and kids to practice paddling and get comfortable in the rafts, before the excitement begins!

The gorge section begins a few miles after put-in and features the most famous rapids in the western US! Fowler's Rock, Satan's Cesspool and Hospital Bar are the biggest rapids of the trips. You'll be nervous, then get soaked, and then have the time of your life... all in one afternoon!

This river is excellent for either the veteran or novice. The flows on the South Fork American River are the most dependable in the state, with guaranteed recreational releases for the next 50 years.

If you are looking to try your first rafting trip, or if you are a rafting pro, you can't go wrong with the Lower gorge section of the South Fork American.

Trip meets at 1:00PM at River Park Resort in Lotus, CA. Trip duration is 4 hours.

Just wanted to let you know what a great time we had on the North Fork of the Yuba. Chris and John did a super job of getting us down the river and Maytag was awesome! We look forward to rafting with you again.
